KASHMIR COMMEMORATION DAY OBSERVED BY EMBASSY OF PAKISTAN IN KABUL
Islamabad: January 05, 2021

Kashmiri people all over the world are today observing the Right to Self Determination Day. On 5th January 1949, the UN Commission and India and Pakistan adopted the resolution affirming the right to self-determination to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and calling for a free and impartial plebiscite under the UN auspices to enable the Kashmiri people to realize their right to self-determination, Says a press release received here today from Kabul. In this regard, Embassy of Pakistan in Kabul today organized a simple and dignified commemoration event to express solidarity and support to the people of Jammu and Kashmir in their peaceful struggle for the right to self-determination. Addressing the event, Ambassador of Pakistan to Islamic Republic of Afghanistan said that the right to self-determination was the most fundamental human right of the people as enshrined in UN Declaration on Human Rights and several other human rights covenants. However, despite the lapse of 72 years, the UN resolutions re-affirming the international commitment to the right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people remain unimplemented. He added that for past 72 years, people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) have continued to suffer from denial of fundamental human rights causing them immense suffering. Post-2019 unilateral measures in the IIOJK, the unabated oppression against the people and denial of basic freedoms has reached unprecedented levels. Today while observing the Right to Self-Determination Day of Kashmiris, Pakistan and its people reiterate their political, moral and diplomatic support for the right to self-determination of the people of Jammu and Kashmir as enshrined in the resolutions of the United Nations. The international community should take effective measures for implementation of the UN resolution for realization of the right to self determination of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
