H.E Mr. Kjell Gunnar Eriksen, Ambassador of Kingdom of Norway to Pakistan called on Federal Minister for Energy Mr. Omar Ayub Khan in his office today. Mr. Tabish Gouhar, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Power also attended the meeting. The Ambassador of Norway apprised the Minister of the ongoing Norwegian's projects in energy sector. The Ambassador also deliberate upon the outlook of emerging market of energy sector and business opportunities in view of newly approved Alternative Energy Policy. The Minister said that Pakistan had embarked upon taping huge indigenous potential of renewable energy. He said that Pakistan's New Renewable Energy Policy would bring opportunities for investors due to transparent policies of the current government. He said that the government had set an ambitious target to introduce 25 percent renewable energy by 2025, and 30 percent by end of 2030 including 40 percent share of hydel power generation into energy mix of the country. The Minister also highlighted that the Government would induct renewable energy-based power plants through open and competitive bidding in transparent manner. He said that the government would also encourage the transfer of technology in these projects. He said that the government is focusing on manufacturing and assembly of wind turbines and solar panels in Pakistan. The Ambassador appreciated the newly promulgated Renewable Energy Policy of Pakistan and expressed the hope that Norway will forge cooperation with Pakistan in field of renewable energy.
