President Mamnoon Hussain has said that the nation is indebted to personnel of armed forces, police and common citizens who embraced martyrdom in the fight against terrorism and extremism adding that their sacrifices will not go in vain. Expressing profound grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives in the terror incident in Lahore, the President said that the whole nation equally shares the grief of the bereaved families and emphasized that such cowardly attacks cannot deter the resolve of the nation. The President said that every organ of the state and the whole nation is united to eliminate the scourge of terrorism and operation Zarb-e-Azab will continue till its logical conclusion. The President underscored that the whole nation stands shoulder to shoulder with police, Pak army and law enforcement agencies in this national endeavour to eradicate the scourge of terrorism.

The President expressed these views while addressing the 32nd Annual Awards Distribution Ceremony of Federal Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education (FBISE) at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, Islamabad on Tuesday.

The President stated that economic situation of the country has improved during the last few years noting that GDP growth rate has now reached 5% and there is a steady increase in foreign investment in the country. The President expressed optimism that the country’s future is bright. The President noted that corruption has declined during the last few years which has brought good name to the country. The President underlined that corruption is a curse and urged the youth to play a frontline role to eliminate this menace.

The President stated that those nations excel in the world which acquire supremacy in knowledge and education and then utilize it for welfare of the people. The President underscored the importance of education in nation building and called for focusing on research and enhancing the standard of quality of education in the country. The President said that we are living in the age of information technology which requires us to attain pre-eminence in modern knowledge and sciences to carve out a niche for our country in the comity of nations.

President Mamnoon Hussain underlined that a great transformation is occurring in the region in the form of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) which will generate many opportunities of progress and development not only for Pakistan but for the whole region. The President stressed that it is the responsibility of the youth to acquire modern education keeping in view the possibilities emerging from CPEC and hoped that they will meet the expectations of their nation.

The President noted that women constitute 50% of the country’s population and urged them to acquire maximum education in their field of interest even if they have to go abroad but advised them not to ape the west and never compromise on their Islamic and Pakistani identity. The President advised the students to always be respectful to their parents and teachers as it is because of their prayers and endeavours that they have been able to achieve success.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal said that a special educational facility will be established to impart quality education to students in science and technology. He stated that twenty thousand Phd scholars will be produced to meet the future human resource requirement. Minister of State for Education & Professional Training Engr. Muhammad Baligh ur Rehman said that imparting quality education is priority of the government noting that due to better policy of the government the number of children attending school has increased significantly. He apprised that a bill declaring compulsory education of the Holy Quran is under discussion in National Assembly. He further informed that the government has decided to set up an endowment fund of Rs-2 billion for promotion of higher education in the country. Chairman FBISE Dr. Ikram Malik also spoke on the occasion.

President Mamnoon Hussain also gave away prizes, medals, certificates and laptops to position holders. The President felicitated the award winning students and hoped that they will continue to achieve more successes in future to bring laurels for their country as envisioned by forefathers of the nation.

On the occasion, President Mamnoon Hussain offered Dua for the martyred police officers and people in the terrorist incident in Lahore and prayed that Allah Almighty accepts their sacrifices and makes our homeland a cradle of peace.
