OMSTECH has state of the art laboratories and research institutes which need to be utilized for pharmaceutical purpose. Azam Khan Swati, Federal Minister for Narcotics Control chaired Muhammad Azam Khan Swati, Federal Minister for Narcotics Control visited the COMSTECH Headquarter in Islamabad today. Prof. Dr. M Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General, COMSTECH received the Federal Minister for Narcotics Control at the COMSTECH Headquarter. Prof. Dr. M Iqbal Choudhary, briefed in detail the Federal Minister about COMSTECH, its projects/programmes, research institutes and degree awarding institutes. He said that COMSTECH, the Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation of the OIC, was established in January 1981. The President of Pakistan is the Chairman of COMSTECH. The Coordinator General Prof. Iqbal Choudhary said that the core mandate of COMSTECH is to strengthen cooperation among OIC Member states in science and technology and to enhance their capabilities in the areas of science and technology. He further said that major focus of COMSTECH is on human resource development and research in the field of science and technology. COMSTECH has established research centres and institutions in 13 Islamic countries under the project “COMSTECH Inter-Islamic Network”. He said that COMSTECH has many projects which are in pipeline for implementation and will be implemented soon. The Federal Minister appreciated the valuable initiatives and efforts of COMSTECH in the field of science and technology. The Federal Minister Azam Khan Swati said that Ministry of Narcotics Control will work on to utilize the laboratories and research centres of COMSTECH for utilization of seized drugs for pharmaceutical purpose under strict monitoring. Azam Khan Swati gave assurance of full cooperation and help for giving more funds from the government for research in the field of science and technology. The Secretary, Ministry of Narcotics Control AD Khawaja was also present in the meeting.
