PR No.105 PLANTATION DRIVE KICKS OFF AT NUST ON NATIONAL GREEN DAY Islamabad

National University of Sciences and Technology, in observance of National Green Day, embarked on a massive tree plantation drive at its main campus here on Thursday. Lt Gen Naweed Zaman HI (M), (Retd), Rector NUST, inaugurated the environment-friendly campaign by planting a Guava tree. He was flanked by an overwhelming number of university officials, faculty members and students. The Rector said that horticultural activities are a must for conserving the green environment. He directed the horticulture staff to plant over extensive saplings during the campaign. He also encouraged students and faculty to become a part of the drive and plant saplings at their homes and work areas, which would be provided by the university. Earlier, the students and staff of NUST, led by the Rector, held a Green Day walk around the campus. The day will be observed annually on February 9.

It is pertinent to mention here that “Green Pakistan Program” has been initiated following the directions of Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, for reinstating forestry in Pakistan and ameliorating harmful effects of the climate change.
