It is need of the time to increase the representation of women and girls for decision making roles in society, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Climate Change, Malik Amin Aslam said this during a ceremony held in Islamabad regarding a National Climate Change Gender Action Plan launched by IUCN in collaboration with Ministry of Climate Change, today. Appreciating the role of women he said that the rural women of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province played a key role in developing nurseries, under the 10 billion Tree Tsunami project. Ms. Fauzia Malik, Manager IUCN during her presentation provided an overview of the project and shared the statistics about the gender involvement. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Joudat Ayaz, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Climate Change informed the audience that this project will develop national capacities and focal groups and a cross-sector national action plan as well as foster innovative project design to strengthen national and provincial climate change adaptation, mitigation and resilience through gender-responsive strategies and activities. Country Representative, IUCN Pakistan Mahmood Akhtar Cheema said that IUCN has a very diverse experience in the development of Policies and Strategies for national level that were translated into actions by designing of integrated district development visions. The launching ceremony was attended by international development partners, non-governmental organizations, academia and government agencies, as well as other segments of the society.
