President Mamnoon Hussain has said that in order to make Pakistan a welfare state the civil officers should honestly and efficiently implement government policies and programmes for the benefit and welfare of the people. He added that civil officers are servants of the people and they should discharge their responsibilities without any fear.

The President was addressing the participants of 106th National Management Course of National School of Public Policy (NSPP) at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, Islamabad on Thursday. Rector NSPP Azmat Ali Ranjha and other senior officials were also present on the occasion.

The President said that secret to any nation’s progress and rise to excellence is hard work, judicious utilization of available resources and sincere leadership but these factors bear fruit only when the administration and civil officers of different fields are fully aware of the principles of running the government. The President said that various training courses are organized to hone the skills of civil servants and expressed his satisfaction that the curriculum devised for such courses is in line with modern requirements which is the need of the hour. The President hoped that trainee officers would serve the country in a better way adding that our civil officers should follow the guidelines and principles laid by Quaid-e-Azam for the civil servants. He added that civil officers should assist the government in formulating such policies which are for the betterment of the people.

The President said that national policies are heading in the right direction due to which national economy is improving and investment is increasing. He stressed that Pakistan is preparing to take huge stride towards progress and all segments of society should play their role in this regard.

The President expressed optimism that extremism and terrorism from the country will be eradicated soon adding that federal and provincial governments as well as the armed forces have played an important role for the success of National Action Plan. He said that the process of FATA reforms will be completed successfully and all stakeholders have been taken into confidence in this regard.

The President also answered questions asked by the participants. Replying to a question, President Mamnoon Hussain said that Pakistan has always acted sincerely for peace and stability in Afghanistan and welcomes constructive role of Russia in this regard.

The President stated that when timely solution of peoples’ problems is not found then it leads to sense of deprivation among federating units of the state. This weakens the state therefore procedural requirements should not become a hindrance in resolving issues of the people, he said while replying to another question.

On a question regarding implementation of the decision on making Urdu as official language, the President said that after this decision he now delivers speeches in Urdu language. The President further stated that he feels that if the transition from English to Urdu is made gradually, it will not pose any difficulty. He called upon universities to translate books of modern sciences in Urdu so that no segment of society is left deprived of education.
