PR No. 77 PRIME MINISTER’S VISIT TO CHINA LANDMARK MOU ON ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY SIGNED BETWEEN PAKISTAN AND CHINA – DR. ZAFAR MIRZA Islamabad: October 09, 2019

Memorandum of Understanding on Improving Access to Assistive Technology signed between Ministry of National Health Services and Chinese Disabled People’s Federation in the presence of Prime Ministers of Pakistan and China, is a landmark and will benefit millions of Disabled not only in Pakistan and China but all countries part of the Belt and Road Initiative. This was stated by Dr. Zafar Mirza Special Assistant to Minister on Health who signed the MoU, on behalf of Pakistan at a ceremony held at Great Hall of the People in Beijing. The MoU was one of the three MoUs signed by the two countries during visit of Prime Minister Imran Khan to China. Pakistani disabled people would benefit and so would our emerging industry in this area through industrial cooperation, SAPM said. Dr. Zafar Mirza in a statement said this will further enhance the existing bilateral relations, friendship and cooperation between the two countries especially in the field of Public Health and Medical Research to promote health services for the welfare of the people of Pakistan. China has the largest number of disabled people (86 million) and the world’s largest and most influential Chinese Disabled People’s Federation (CDPF) and world’s largest assistive technology industry. Pakistan has championed the cause of Assistive Technology Globally and continues to successfully lead efforts to advocate for access of those in need to Assistive Technology, across the world. Pakistan led resolution on Improving Access to Assistive Technology was passed by World Health Assembly in 2018.
