Bilateral Meeting between Afghanistan and Pakistan on the Side-lines of the Trilateral Afghanistan-China-Pakistan Foreign Ministers Dialogue The Foreign Ministers of Pakistan and Afghanistan held bilateral talks today on the side-lines of the China-Afghanistan-Pakistan Trilateral Foreign Ministers’ Dialogue in Islamabad. The exchange of views covered broad areas of mutual interest, Afghan peace process, and issues relating to regional peace and stability. Afghan Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani thanked Pakistan for hosting the third round of the Trilateral Dialogue. Pakistan reiterated its support for an Afghan-owned and Afghan-led political settlement being the only solution of the Afghan conflict. Foreign Minister Qureshi highlighted that Pakistan’s long-standing stance that there was no military solution to the Afghan conflict was now being vindicated. Both sides agreed that inclusive intra-Afghan negotiations were imperative for durable and sustainable peace in Afghanistan. It was also agreed that a peaceful and stable Afghanistan was indispensable for regional stability. Both sides reaffirmed the desire to enhance trade; deepen cooperation in areas of economy, security and counter-terrorism matters;and strengthen connectivity. Visit of Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani contributes to the positive momentum generated in bilateral relations over the past several months. Both sides agreed to further build on the understandings reached during the visit of President Ashraf Ghani to Pakistan in June 2019, in all areas of bilateral cooperation. *****
