Adviser to the Prime Minister on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam has said that Pakistan is rich with possibilities of generating abundant renewable energy through hydro, wind and solar while putting a cap of 50MW on renewable energy was a criminal act of the previous regime. Prime Minister is passionate about Climate Change and renewable energy. This is the political will of the incumbent government that Pakistan has embarked upon ambitious project of 10 Billion Tree Tsunami. This was said during a meeting with President of World Economic Forum, H.E. Borge Brende. President of the World Economic Forum called on Adviser to the Prime Minister on Climate Change in his office on Thursday and exchanged his views on successful efforts of PTI government regarding climate change. President WEF said that three among top five challenges faced by the world today were directly related to Climate Change and that Pakistan had done a marvelous job to fight climate change which was unprecedented all across the developing world. He said that Prime Minister of Pakistan had taken a very proactive policy on the issue of climate change, which was hailed all over the world. Pakistan has enormous potential of clean energy especially in the form of hydroelectricity which was also vital for floods controls. Pakistan was at the risk of high vulnerability regarding climate change related calamities. He also told that Norway was producing 100% clean energy from its hydro potential and that hydel energy was the backbone of the Norwegian industrialization. Adviser to the Prime Minister apprised the President WEF about upcoming 10 Billion Tree Tsunami Project, Clean Green Pakistan Project and Ecosystem Restoration Fund. He also informed that Federal Government wanted to replicate its success story of planting 1 billion trees all across the country. And that Pakistan aimed to register that project with Bonn challenge. He said that previous government promoted coal based power generation during last five years. Government has to pay in the form of capacity charges to those fuel based power generation plants despite tough economic conditions. Keeping in view the availability of excess power, government wanted to channelize that electricity into electric vehicles that was why electric vehicle policy was on cards and would hopefully be presented to the cabinet for approval in next few weeks. President WEF appreciated the policies of the incumbent government particularly pertaining to utilizing the huge potential of young population and admired Skills Acceleration Project of the Prime Minister Imran Khan. H.E. Mr. Brende is also the former Foreign Minister of Norway.
