Federal Minister for Inter Provincial Coordination Dr.Fehmida Mirza met President Tennis Federation Mr. Saleem Saifullah and Senior Vice President Squash Federation Air Marshal Mr. Shahid Alvi, separately, in Islamabad today. Secretary IPC Mr. Akbar Durrani and DG PSB Mr. Arif Ibrahim were also present in the meeting. Issues pertaining to the administrative structure, budget & funding, performance and problems faced by the Federations were discussed. President sports Federations appreciated the Minister IPC for providing them an opportunity to discuss their issues. Mr. Saifullah apprised the Minister on the performance of tennis federation and also highlighted its efforts to bring Davis Cup to Pakistan after twelve years. It was told that the credit of initiating wheelchair tennis also goes to the federation. He underscored the importance of the Government’s support for promotion of tennis and said that out of the box solutions must be sorted to deal with the problems of funding. Idea of establishing a Sports University and ideas to generate funds from different sources were discussed. Talking to the Minister, President of Squash federation described the strategy adopted by the federation to encourage and improve Squash in the country. The achievements and the future plans were also highlighted. It was agreed to establish Squash courts in Giligit Baltistan and North Waziristan. Dr. Mirza appreciated the achievements of the Federations and acknowledged the fact that with resource constraints, both the Federations are contributing well. She also assured of the Government's support and asked the Federations to underline their priorities regarding training of the players and their requirements for participation in international events. It was also told that after the devolution of sports, it is primarily a provincial subject, hence the Federal Government will not be able to bear the administrative expenditures.
