Chairman Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC), Zulfikar Bukhari, visited Dharmarajika Stupa in Taxila today. The Chairman met people from the Buddhist community and felicitated them on the Birthday of Gautama Buddha celebrated as Vesak Day. Zulfikar Bukhari also met the local leader of the Buddhist community and reiterated his commitment towards inter-faith harmony. Prime Minister Imran Khan's government is focused on increasing religious tourism in the country, he said. The previous governments did not work on religious tourism despite Pakistan's enormous potential in the sector, he added. Tourism was not seen in this way before. But it is now our priority to develop religious sites so that international tourism in the sector can be uplifted. We need to highlight our potential, he added. He further said that experts in Buddhism will be of great help in this regard as they can help in developing religious tourism the way it should be.
