PR No. 22 Kashmir Solidarity Day Observed in Tunisia Islamabad: February 5, 2019

Kashmir solidarity Day was solemnly observed at Pakistan Embassy Tunis here today. The event was attended by a large number of Tunisian people including intellectuals, scholars, members of think tanks and media. Members of Pakistani diaspora also participated in a large number, says a press release received from Tunis here today. Head of Chancery Mr. Shafiq Ahmed highlighted the importance of the day to the audience. He stated that the day was marked to express solidarity with the people of Indian held Jammu and Kashmir who continue to suffer the denial of basic human rights and their self-determination in accordance with UN resolutions. He also lauded the resolve of the Kashmiri people. A documentary on the atrocities being committed by the Indian forces of occupation was also screened. Professor Dr. Muhammad Bu Azizi, a Tunisian scholar and author of a book on Allama Muhammad Iqbal, in his speech, appreciated the support given by the government of Pakistan for the people of Indian held Jammu and Kashmir. Making a comparison between Jammu & Kashmir and Palestine, he stated that both the issues were the cases of human rights violation and foreign occupation. He stated that the whole world needed to express solidarity with the Kashmiri people. In his address, Ambassador Muhammad Hassan highlighted the Kashmir issue in the light of its regional and global implications. He said that human rights violations, remained a big challenge to the conscience of the international community. Resolving the Kashmir issue in accordance with the UNSC resolution would pave the way for peace and long stability for all of South Asia and help the region attain its true economic potential. The Ambassador stated that on this day, the people of Pakistan and the world expresses solidarity with Kashmiris sharing their grief and pain of sufferings in the wake of Indian brutalities. He also stated that Prime Minister of Pakistan has reassured that Pakistan will remain consistent in its principled position on Kashmir and continue to provide political, diplomatic and moral support to the just cause of the Kashmiri people. *****
