PR No. 144 Chairman Board of Governors, Overseas Pakistanis Foundation visits Oman Islamabad: April 16, 2017

HE Ali Javed, the Ambassador of Pakistan, welcomed Barrister Amjad Malik, Chairman Board of Governors (BoG), Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF) who is on a working visit to Oman Muscat. Mr. Malik’s engagements started with a guided tour of Mission’s Consular Services Hall and interaction with visitors. He was then accorded a briefing on rising trajectory of bilateral relations and on services & contributions rendered by Pakistani community across Oman whose current size is placed at 263, 043 (Source: NCSI Oman), says a press release received from Muscat here today.

Mr. Malik was interviewed by four media publications including Times of Oman TV and Muscat Daily while he presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Mr. Stephen Grant, an Artist, for his contributions through reflection of Pakistani historical heritage and culture in promotion of peace and friendship. A Map depicting the spread of Pakistani presence in Oman was also unveiled by the Barrister. It will now be on display for visitors of Consular Hall.

In the evening, the Ambassador is hosted a Reception in honor of the visiting dignitary which included a 2-hour interactive session with 50 prominent Pakistanis.  The complete spectrum of Pakistani presence in Oman including young professionals and entrepreneurs, community leaders from Gwadar and other parts of Balochistan, businessmen, academia, intellectuals, journalists, philanthropists business owners, participated. Construction, Logistics, Services, Aviation and Banking Sectors will also be represented while community leaders of Christian, Parsi & Hindu faiths are also participating.

HE Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif “accords highest priority to the welfare of overseas Pakistanis”. His government is strategizing to making Pakistani expats a stakeholder in State policy formulation process. The Prime Minister has decreed that the dividends and opportunities from the economic turnaround in Pakistan are shared with overseas Pakistanis towards the betterment of entire country.

Barrister Malik’s visit thus dovetails the reinvigorated initiative from the government which recently reconstituted the BoG of Overseas Foundation by making amendments in the relevant laws. Mr. Malik is the first elected Chairman of OPFs’ BoG and is himself on Overseas Pakistan based in UK. The position was previously held by a Federal Minister. Mr. Malik’s visit to Oman is part of outreach to GCC. He has already undertaken visits across Europe and shall also lead a delegation to the USA.
