No. 166 On the directives of Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, the Vice Chancellor of Punjab University has transferred one post of professor from the university pool to the Institute of Communication Studies and designated it as Professor Miskeen Ali Hijazi Chair, named after the renowned journalist and teacher of Mass Communication, Prof. Dr. Miskeen Ali Hijazi. The Vice Chancellor did this in exercise of powers vested in him under section 15 (3) of the University of the Punjab act 1973 and in anticipation of the approval of the relevant bodies. The Prime Minister had announced the creation of this Chair last year when he visited the residence of Prof. Miskeen Ali Hijazi after his death.

No. 167 The government is introducing reforms to bring qualitative change to and raise the standard of education to international level, said Federal Minister/Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme Farzana Raja on Sunday. Addressing the closing ceremony of Roots National Olympiad 2010, Farzana Raja said the government has embarked on a journey to enhance the quality of education in the country. In this regard, she said, “Rigorous training was being imparted to the teachers to equip them with the modern skills and knowledge to be able to educate our children in the best possible environment,” She said, “The government is committed to achieve the Millennium Development Goal of Universal Primary Education by the year 2015.” Stressing the importance of education in the development of a nation, Farzana Raja said, “Today’s world has become a global village and only education could develop skills and abilities in our youth (that) could pave the way for a brighter and happier future. Youth is the backbone of the nation and the future belongs to them.” Farzana Raja congratulated the award winners of the Roots National Olympiad 2010 and praised the dedication and commitment of Roots School System and its management and teachers in nurturing the future generation of Pakistan.
