PM’s
Germany and England successful visit will open new doors of economic development for
Pakistan: Shahbaz Bhatti

Prime Minister’s successful visit of Germany and England will open new doors of economic development for Pakistan. Bilateral cooperation with both the countries would help to boost further relationship in the fields of economic, politics, trade and more in joint ventures; this was stated by the Federal Minister for Minorities Affairs Mr. Shahbaz Bhatti who accompanied the Pak delegation of PM, Mr. Yusuf Raza Gilani’s resent visit.

Federal Minister stated that PM of Pakistan presented with dignity and honour Pakistani Nation’s point of view on war against terrorism. PM boldly stated that Pakistan is suffering much being frontline ally of this war and International Community should recognize its sacrifices, “they should Do More”. We know how to win the war. International Community should enhance financial support for Pakistan to bring this war on a decisive point to win it.

Mr. Shahbaz Bhatti informed that PM realized them it was a big war and they must feel their responsibilities in this regard. He stated that this visit was paid this time when Germany is going to finalize its foreign policy. Pak-Germany signed Bilateral Investment Treaty, initially it was signed in 1959. It will bring fruitful results very soon in the field of economics trade etc. There are so many German Companies already working in Pakistan, their number will be increased by this treaty. PM said straightaway “we want trade not aid”.

Mr. Shahbaz Bhatti further stated while talking to Pakistani community, Prime Minister appreciated their role in the struggle for restoration of democracy in Pakistan.

German Chancellor, Angelina Michele and British PM, Gordon Brown, appreciated Pakistan’s character, its efforts in the war against terrorism and promised to continue their cooperation with Pakistan.

Mr. Shahbaz Bhatti stated it was a successful visit and will bring fruitful results soon.

PRESIDENT PROMULGATES TWO ORDINANCES

Islamabad 06, December, 2009

President Asif Ali Zardari has promulgated two ordinances namely the National Defence University Ordinance, 2009 and the Institute of Space Technology Ordinance, 2009.

Spokesperson to the President former Senator Farhatullah Babar said that these ordinances one for the establishment of National Defence University at Islamabad and the other for the establishment and grant of degree awarding status the Institute of Space Technology were initially promulgated in July, 2007. These had to be placed before the Parliament within 120 days with effect from July 31, 2009 in accordance with the Supreme Court verdict of that date, he said.

However, these Ordinances could not get passed from both Houses of Parliament by the deadline set in the Supreme Court verdict.

The President, therefore, on the advice of the Prime Minister and in terms of Article 89(1) of the Constitution and the Rules of Business 1973 promulgated these Ordinances for continuity and smooth operations and also to avoid legal implications, he said.

PADDY PROCUREMENT: FARMERS TO BE FACILITATED IN ALL POSSIBLE WAYS. NAZAR M. GONDAL

The Federal Minister for Food & Agriculture Nazar Muhammad Gondal directed the PASSCO officials to facilitate farmers in the paddy procurement without any discrimination. He said that farmers are the backbone of the country and the present government is firmly resolved to address their genuine needs and demands.

The Minister asked the PASSCO officials to make cash payments to small farmer i.e. selling up to 500 mund paddy to the PASSCO. The Minister said that the PASSCO has procured 35000 tons of paddy so far against the set target of 1 million ton. The Minister assured the farmers that PASSCO would continue to purchase paddy till the last grain is sold by the farmers. The Minister stated that the paddy market has witnessed stability due to the timely intervention of PASSCO and the prices of paddy have jumped up in the open market.

“We would never leave the farmers at the mercy of the middlemen and the exploiters”, expressed the minister. The minister stated that PASSCO was originally designed to end the role of middlemen who have always exploited the poor farmers of the country. He said that the farmers must duly get the fruit of their hard work and labor of the whole year.

The minister listened to the complaints of the farmers and issued on the spot instructions to the officials concerned. He said that the paddy must not be rejected or returned to the farmers under any situation, however the standards set by the government should also be strictly maintained.

The Minister alongwith Managing Director and General Manager PASSCO were on a two day official visit to the Paddy Procurement Centers in Gujrat, Gujranwala and Sialkot.
