Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has appointed Mr. Ahmad Bakhsh Lehri as Chief Secretary to the Government of Balochistan.

Mr. Ahmad Bakhsh Lehri is a senior DMG officer.  He belongs to Balochistan and had previously served at various important positions including Assistant Commissioner, Dalbandin; Assistant Commissioner, Chaman; Political Assistant, Chaghai; Deputy Commissioner, Kalat; Commissioner, Kalat; Secretary Education, Government of Balochistan; Commissioner, Zhob; Additional Chief Secretary, Planning & Development, Government of Balochistan; Director General Hajj, Director General, Gwadar Development Authority and Federal Secretary, Ministry of Housing & Works.

A DELEGATION OF NWFP CABINET MEMBERS FROM
PAKISTAN PEOPLE’S PARTY
CALLS ON
PRESIDENT ASIF ALI ZARDARI

Islamabad; February 6, 2010

President Asif Ali Zardari Saturday called for mobilizing the Party cadres in Hazara so as to make the PPP the strongest political force in the region. The PPP Hazara deserves to be felicitated for putting up a tough fight in the recently held by elections in which the Party distinctly improved upon its performance as its candidate secured far more votes in the bye election compared with votes secured in the last general election. We need to continue making political progress in Hazara by addressing the issues facing the people on the one hand and strengthening the Party on the other.

He expressed these views while talking to a delegation of NWFP cabinet members from Pakistan People’s Party that called on him at the Presidency Saturday evening.

Matters regarding current political situation, coalition matters, law and order situation in NWFP, the status of developmental projects in the province and the President’s forthcoming visit to NWFP came under discussion during the meeting.

Those who attended the meeting included Mr. Rahimdad Khan, Senior Minister, Syed Zahir Ali Shah, Minister for Health, Mr. Mohammad Humayun Khan, Minister for Finance, Mr. Salim Khan, Minster for Population, Mr. Sher Azam Khan Wazir, Minister for Labour, Syed Ahmad Hassan Shah, Minister for Industries, Mr. Shuja Salim khan, Minister for Housing, Mr. Parvez Khattak, Minister for Irrigation and Nawab Mehmood Zaib Khan, Minister for Minerals. Senator Sardar Ali Khan and Ms Rukhsana Bangash, MNA were also present during the meeting.

Referring to the vision of Shaheed Mohtrama Benazir Bhutto and the Party’s manifesto the President said that PPP believe in pursuing the agenda of women emancipation and would continue to empower them in socio- political and economic fields.

The President said that all announcements of development schemes made for Hazara will be implemented and added that in addition a special Development package will also be announced for Hazara Division.

The delegation reposed unflinching confidence in the leadership of the President and Co-Chairman PPP in running the affairs of the government and the Party.

To ensure inexpensive and expeditious justice is a crucial duty, said the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr. Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry while addressing the delegations of Karachi Bar Association headed by Mr. Mehmood-ul-Hassan and Khair Pur Mir’s headed by Mr. Shafqat Hussain and other office bearers of Sindh Bar Council and District Bars who called on his lordship today 06-02-2010 in Supreme Court Building, Branch Registry, Karachi.

Bench and Bar must have cordial relations with each other to solve the problems of litigants, added the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr. Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry while welcoming the members of the delegations.

The members discussed with the Chief Justice, issues and matters of interest of the legal/judicial fraternity. The bar members assured the Hon’ble Chief Justice of their full support and cooperation. They expressed the hope that the administration of justice needs his leadership and motivation to deliver justice to the public at large. They said that the public have reposed great confidence in the judiciary.

The members of the bar thanked the Chief Justice and assured him of full support and cooperation. The delegations invited the Chief Justice of Pakistan to visit the Bars. The Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan extended his greetings and assured them to visit the Bars soon.

KASHMIR SOLIDARITY WEEK – ESSAY COMPETITION
Islamabad; February 6, 2010

As part of the activities of the Kashmir Solidarity Week the Kashmir Committee held arranged a function to distribute prizes amongst the winners of the Essay Competition floated by the Kashmir Committee on the topic: “Kashmir Issue: A Quest for Solution”. Prizes for English and Urdu essay both were First Rs. 15,000/-, Second Rs. 10,000/-, third Rs. 7,500/-. The names of the winners are:

He appreciated the Committee for holding this exercise. The Minister also dilated on the Kashmir issue. He announced an award of Rs. 5000/- to three position holders of English and Urdu Essays.

Topic of the next Essay Competition will be “The Kashmir Issue” and prizes will be Rupees 20,000, 15,000, 10,000 for top three positions in English and Urdu separately. Besides, there will be sixteen consolation prizes also.

A high level meeting was held in the Ministry of Interior to discuss the issue of missing persons, to comply with direction of the Honourable Supreme Court of Pakistan. Minister for Interior, Senator A. Rehman Malik chaired the meeting. It was participated by Secretary Interior, Secretary Defence and reps from Provincial Government as well as Law Enforcement and Intelligence Agencies.

Minister for Interior in his opening remarks reiterated that the Government of Pakistan in coordination with the Provincial Governments must make renewed serious efforts for tracing the whereabouts of the missing persons with special emphasis towards the cases filed in the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

Minister for Interior directed that FIRs be registered in each case and investigation be expedited. Latest report of all these cases will be presented in the Honourable Supreme Court of Pakistan during the next hearing. All Home Secretaries will be available to assist the Attorney General of Pakistan to comply with the direction of the Honourable Court.
