 COTTAGE INDUSTRY WAS THE BACKBONE OF THE COUNTRY’S ECONOMY: SPEAKER NA

Dr. Fehmida Mirza, Speaker National Assembly has said that cottage industry was of utmost importance for alleviation of poverty and eradication of unemployment from the country and appropriate steps were being taken for its development. She said this while inaugurating the exhibition held jointly by the National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) in collaboration with National Institute of Cultural Studies (NICS) at Heritage Museum , Loc Virsa, Islamabad today. The exhibition was held to promote art and crafts of the IDPs from Swat, Malakand and Mansehra.

The Speaker said that terrorism had affected the entire country but the people of Swat and Malakand suffered the most. She said that entire nation salutes the courage and patience of the people of Swat and Malakand who gave exemplary sacrifices in war against terrorism.

The Speaker said that the government was committed to develop the area and restore all civic amenities with utmost speed. She appreciated the initiatives of NCHD and NICS for promoting the art and crafts of the IDPs, adding that the step would generate income and help providing more employment opportunities for the people of Swat and Malakand.

GILGIT BALTISTAN
CHIEF MINISTER CALLS ON THE SPEAKER NA.

The Speaker National Assembly, Dr. Fehmida Mirza has said that democracy was the only way to make Pakistan develop and prosperous and meet the challenges confronting the country. She said this while talking to Syed Mehdi Shah, Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan who along with a group of Member of Gilgit Baltisatan Legislative Assembly, called on her in the Parliament House today.

The Speaker said that granting rights to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan to choose their representatives and form their government was the due since long. She said that with formation of Legislative Assembly in Gilgit, the democratic process in the area has been completed. She said that the step will lead to expedite the process of development and prosperity of the area.

The Speaker said that removing regional imbalances and ensuring equal opportunities was necessary for the strengthening democracy. She said that holding elections in Gilgit-Baltistan, announcing Balochistan package and the 7th NFC award were the visible proof of success of democracy in Pakistan .

The Speaker congratulated the Chief Minister and members of the Assembly of Gilgit-Baltistan on their election and urged them to devote themselves for the uplift and prosperity of the people of the area and strengthening of democratic institutions.

The Chief Minister, Syed Mehdi Shah while speaking on the occasion, said that formation of Legislative Assembly in Gilgit-Baltistan was in accordance with vision of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed. He said that the formation of representative government would pave way for prosperity and progress of the people of the area.

BIJARANI CONDOLES WITH BEREAVED FAMILIES OF THE VICTIMS OF LAKKI MARWAT

Federal Minister for Industries and Production, Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani has severely condemned suicide attack at Volley Ball Play Ground in  Lakki Marwat in which scores of innocent people have become victim of this cowardly act of terrorism. Federal Minister, while expressing his sympathy with the bereaved families, has said that the government would very soon overcome such kind of terrorism.

Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani has said that those involved in killing the innocent do not deserve to be called even a human being. The government would soon purge the country from these suicide attackers and would succeed in maintaining a peace and harmony in homeland.

The Minister prayed to Almighty Allah to rest the departed souls in eternal peace, early recovery of injured persons and grant courage and fortitude to the members of bereaved families to bear this irreparable loss.

SUGAR PRICE HIKE

Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has taken a serious notice of the media reports about the price escalation of sugar in the country and directed the Minister for Finance to immediately convene a meeting of the Committee formed by the Cabinet on Sugar to thrash out all the relevant issues with regard to reported price hike of sugar and to come up with recommendations to ensure easy availability of the commodity at reasonable rate throughout the country.
