Federal Minister for National Health services regulations and Coordination, Mr. Aamir Mahmood Kiani visited Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC). The Minister was cordially welcomed at PM&DC by the President PM&DC Former Justice Mr.Shakirulla Jan and staff. A brief presentation regarding the functioning and progress of the Adhoc council was given to the Minister. After that the Minister visited different sections of the PM&DC. iN the presentation PM&DC informed the Minister that Prescribe uniform minimum standards of courses of training for obtaining graduate and post graduate medical and dental qualifications. The Minister was apprised that 158 medical colleges public and private medical and dental are running in the country currently. He added that till today registered medical faculty is 23361 and dental is 4528. The total number of registered Medical & Dental practitioners in the country is 244,782 which include 178,592 general medical practitioners, 20,993 general dental practitioners, 43,181 medical, surgical & allied specialists and 2,016 dental & allied specialists. PM&DC added that 51 meetings of the Council / Executive Committee (EC) held for early disposal of cases, timely decision-making, framing of rules and regulations etc. 30 Sessions of Council with average of 10 days before that, the Council Sessions were held with average of 40 days 21 meetings of EC held with average of 13 days while previously EC meetings were held with average of 38 days. The Adhoc Council has developed Standards for MBBS Curriculum which was last revised in 2005 and Work on BDS Curriculum is under process. The Minister was apprised that PM&DC is making reforms for upgrading PM&DC by adopting e office. The Minister ensured his full support in the implementation of the IT reforms of PM&DC on behalf of Ministry. He said that it will be big step towards facilitation towards public. The Minster was also informed that Implementation of merit-based central /regional induction policy for admissions in MBBS and BDS programs have been successfully implemented by the Adhoc Council to ensure merit. Minister said Improvement in medical education is top priority of the Government in accordance with the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan Health and Education is over top priority concrete steps are being taken to improve the health and medical education.
