Minister for Human Rights Dr Shireen Mazari while turning down the rumours has emphatically stated that the government is committed to implement the multi billion dollars China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project. She was addressing a ceremony in connection with launching of a report on Role of Women in CPEC organized by Pak-China Institute in Islamabad today. The report highlights the opportunities that the CPEC offers to the women. The Human Rights Minister pointed out that it is a long term project having the resilience and flexibility to deal with the changing situation. Shireen Mazari stressed that involving neighbouring countries will add substance to the CPEC. She said such a course will not only make Pakistan and China regional hub of trade but also help promote indigenization. Shireen Mazari expressed the confidence that the CPEC will also envisage technical and vocational training programs for women so that they could also find job opportunities in various projects. She was confident that the establishment of the special economic zones under the CPEC will provide better working environment to our labour force including the women. She said that academic and research projects have also been added in CPEC, which are equally important as economic development. The Minister for Human Rights stated that the government is also framing a bill on the rights of domestic workers adding that we are also working on the different legislations to ensure the protection and provision of better working environment to the women. She pointed out that Pakistan is signatory to several ILO conventions but the previous governments did not bring legislation to ensure their implementation. She said the present government is determined to protect the rights of the labour force.
