Swedish Ambassador for Human Rights, Democracy & Rule of Law, Ms Annika Ben David along with Ambassador of Sweden, Ingrid Johansson has called on the Federal Minister for Human Rights Dr Shireen M Mazari here in Islamabad on Friday. They discussed in detail various human rights issues and concerns and how we are tackling these issues here in Pakistan and Sweden. Matters related to the rights of Muslim community residing in some states of EU also came under discussion. Shireen Mazari while showing her commitment to ensure the protection of rights of every citizen without any discrimination has said that we are committed to protect the human rights including the rights of minorities and women. Human Rights Minister also apprised the Swedish Ambassador about the commitment of the incumbent government to implement the prevailing laws and introducing the new laws including the awareness drive regarding the women’s right to inheritance. We have already started awareness drive regarding the women’s right to inheritance and launching another drive to provide free legal aid soon. We are committed to safeguard the rights of our citizens, she further added. Swedish Ambassador for Human Rights appreciated the endeavours of government for the steps been taken to ensure the protection of rights in Pakistan. Dr Mazari told the Ambassador that Sweden is the first country in the world to pursue a feminist foreign policy. I was already aware of the Swedish govt's feminist foreign policy - a first of its kind, she further added.
