PR No. 99 GERMAN AMBASSADOR CALLS ON FEDERAL MINISTER /ADVISOR TO PM ON CLIMATE CHANGE MALIK AMIN ASLAM KHAN Islamabad: October 12, 2018

German Ambassador to Pakistan Martin Kobler, called on Federal Minister /Advisor to PM on climate change Malik Amin Aslam Khan and discussed the matters of mutual interest related to environment. The minister apprised the ambassador about the key initiatives of the government to protect the environment and strategic measures being taken to mitigate climate change hazards in the country. Malik Amin Aslam Khan also informed Ambassador about the salient features of ten billion tsunami tree plantation drive and Clean Green Pakistan which is being inaugurated by PM tomorrow. Mr. Kobler, while appreciating the green vision of the government said that last year he visited three sites of his own choice in KPK to observe the actual plantation made under one billion tsunami tree project and was happy to see that it was successfully implemented. Malik Amin Aslam Khan said that Clean Green Pakistan project is being launched to change the behavior of the people so that they would be compelled to think green. Therefore along with plantation we are also focusing on Solid and liquid waste management simultaneously. Minister informed the ambassador that in Sector G-15 Islamabad, Akhtar Hameed Khan trust and UN-HABITAT has established a community based, solid waste management unit which is catering the need of whole sector. They collect the garbage and through recycling, utilize 85% and put rest of the 15%in the CDA dumps and they only charge 250 RS/month from each household. We are thinking to implement this community based model to other parts of the country under our Clean Green Pakistan initiative. Malik Amin Aslam Khan said that it's nearly impossible for Pakistani government alone to do such massive multibillion costing projects .Therefore we need international financial support to successfully carry out the agenda of clean green Pakistan. Minister said that we are asking the MOFA to include our green Pakistan vision as agenda item, in Deputy foreign ministerial meeting of Germany and Pakistan, scheduled to be held in next month, to discuss future cooperation modalities in the arena of environment, between two countries. The ambassador applauded the green vision of the incumbent government for the protection of environment, including massive plantation and assured his full support in this regard.
