PR No. 52 VISIT OF UNITED NATIONS EMERGENCY RELIEF COORDINATOR & UNDER SECRETARY GENERAL FOR OCHA TO PAKISTAN Islamabad: September 7, 2018

The United Nations Under Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and UN’s Emergency Relief Coordinator, Mr. Mark Lowcock, alongwith United Nations Resident Coordinator in Pakistan Mr Neil Bohne called on the Chairman NDMA Lieutenant General Omar Mahmood Hayat here on Friday in NDMA. The core purpose of the meeting was to understand the disaster management system and its priorities for making the country resilient against recurrent disasters. A detailed presentation on the existing Disaster Management System in Pakistan alongwith interventions, challenges, and future priorities was given to the Under Secretary General. Fruitful discussion and exchange of views, including on Response, Risk Financing and Cash Transfer mechanism took place during the meeting. Chairman NDMA highlighted different initiatives undertaken with the support of UN Agencies at various levels and their positive contribution in Disaster Management. The UN Under Secretary General appreciated the efforts of NDMA and acknowledged the tremendous work done which was far impressive compared to some other countries. He also underscored the need for an immense scope in sharing its experience with other countries.
