Consulate General of Pakistan in Jeddah celebrated the Pakistan Independence day with national zeal and fervour. The Consul General of Pakistan Mr. Shehryar Akbar Khan raised the Pakistani flag, to mark the day, in front of large number of Pakistani community who had arrived from different part of Jeddah to participate in the event. National Anthem was played while the National Flag was being raised. A smartly turned out contingent of Pakistan Army and Pakistan Navy was also present at the occasion, says a press release received here today from Jeddah. Later addressing the gathering, the Consul General said that this day is a reminder of the struggle undertaken by the Muslims of the Sub-continent under the leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Iqbal for a separate homeland where they could live their lives with freedom and dignity. It is my belief that with honesty of purpose and devotion to the national cause we will succeed in our mission of elevating Pakistan to its rightful place in the comity of nations, he added. The Consul General appreciated the role of Pakistani community in development of Pakistan as well as Saudi Arabia. He said that 2.6 million Pakistani community living in Saudi Arabia is a source of strength between the two countries and act as a bridge between the two brotherly countries. The Consul General said that 3rd consecutive peaceful transfer of power in Pakistan has strengthened the democratic norms in Pakistan. He also requested all Pakistani expatriates to participate in the Diamer-Bhasha Dam and Mohmand dam construction by putting in their share. He also said to remember the Kashmiri brethren on this auspicious day who are facing human rights violation in Indian occupied Kashmir. The Consul general also thanked His Royal Majesty King Salman bin Abdul Aziz and the Saudi Government for hosting a large number of Pakistani community and providing them opportunity to play their constructive role in development of both the countries. Earlier Mr. Shaiq Bhutto Deputy Consul General and Mr. Najeeb Ahmad, Welfare Consul read out the message of President of Pakistan and Prime Minister of Pakistan for the occasion. The Consul General, surrounded by children clad in Pakistani dresses and holding Pakistani flags, cut the Cake to commemorate the Independence Day of Pakistan. Pakistani children also sang National songs which enthralled the audience. ***
