Muhammad Javed Anwar, Chairman, Ministry of Railways, had a cordial meeting with Mr. Liu Hui, Vice President, China Railways Engineering Company (CREC) on Thursday. Chairman mentioned that Main Line I (MLI), i.e. Karachi to Peshawar Line, is very important for Pakistan’s economy. The requirements of feasibility study and Environment Impact Assessment is also been done for this project. As per Framework Agreement between both countries preliminary design was completed in May 2017. For the preliminary design of up gradation of ML I, CREC, NESPAK and PRACS processed the necessities of the project on quite fast track. The assembling mode of this project will be decided through competitive bidding among Chinese companies. It is a very tactical project as it will transform the Pakistan Railways. It will also provide instant connectivity from Havelian dry port to Arabian Sea and other countries. In this venture the ratio of labour force is 14% Chinese and 86 % Pakistanis. Pakistan Railways is providing safe and secure sites for Chinese personnel. The ample resources have been employed for safety and safety of Chinese. The meeting was also attended by Zubair Shafi Ghauri, Secretary, Railway Board, Mazhar Ali Shah, DG Planning and Munawar Ali Shah, DG Technical.
