While showing satisfaction on the operational readiness of the New Islamabad International Airport, Adviser to PM on Aviation Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan has said that the preparations for the operationalization of New Islamabad Airport have been completed and it will be functional on 3rd May. He expressed these views while chairing the meeting to review the operational readiness of new Islamabad Airport during his visit to the airport on Wednesday. Adviser also inspected the different sections of the airport and expressed his satisfaction over the overall preparedness for operationalization. However, Adviser to PM asked that state of the art systems and equipment be tested and trialed more to bring it to the level of international standards. For that matter he gave directions to concerned authorities and particularly to CAA to do more tests and trials in order to improve reliability and efficiency of systems. He instructed the Civil Aviation Authority to ensure the timely operationalisation of Islamabad International Airport at par with the international standards. Besides, Secretary Aviation Irfan Elahi, DG CAA, Officials of the ASF and others were also present on this occasion. He asked that all stakeholders should also take it as a priority to facilitate its employees to make new international airport accessible and approachable for them. On this occasion Civil Aviation authority, gave a detailed briefing about the operational readiness of airport. Advisor to Prime Minister on Aviation Sardar Mehtab Ahmad Khan asked the Civil Aviation Authority and all other agencies to ensure all necessary arrangements as well as to ensure fool proof security arrangements in terminal building and airport perimeter. He said all out efforts are being made to ensure the provision of best facilities to the passengers at par with international standards. As per the directives of Adviser to Prime Minister on Aviation , the New Islamabad International Airport is going through several trial tests. These trial tests include testing and inspection of various machineries and equipments. Later, Media persons also visited the new airport where a detailed briefing was given to the media from Civil Aviation Authority. During the briefing, Director Planning CAA , Nadir Dar told that Civil Aviation Authority has revolutionized aviation industry not only in Pakistan by establishing the first state of the art Green field airport in Islamabad. It was told that the airport was being built on about 4236 acres. It is linked by two roads for easy access, he added. DDG CAA Amir Mehboob told that the user friendly passenger terminal building consists of 4 levels, 2 run ways, 6 taxi links, 3 rapid taxi ways, 5 aprons including cargo apron and parking area for wide aircraft. It was also briefed that this airport was fully equipped to handle all types of air craft including new generation aircraft Airbus 380. “The airport was capable to serve 9 million passengers and 50,000 metric tons of cargo annually”, He further added. *****
