PR No.140 “5th Meeting of the National Climate Change Policy Implementation committee Held at Ministry of Climate Change” Islamabad: 17th April 2018

Parliamentary Secretary for Climate Change and MNA Romina Khursheed Alam chaired the fifth Meeting of the National Climate change Policy implementation committee held at Ministry of Climate Change. The committee reviewed the progress on decisions taken at 4th meeting. The members in fourth meeting decided that provincial governments would make efforts to finalize the action plans for implementation of National Climate Change Policy in line with implementation framework. The format finalized and circulated by Ministry of Climate Change for reporting status of implantation of National Climate Change Policy will be adopted by all federal and provincial agencies. Federal and Provincial ministries, line departments would prepare pilot projects from the framework and share with Ministry. The representative of Khyber Pukhtoonkhawa updated the members that they have formulates Action Plan for Climate Change. The format received from ministry has been circulated among relevant departments through provincial Environmental Protection Agency. He also informed that they have started 39 projects in water sector, 50 agriculture, 35 in Forestry/Environment, 21 energy, 1 transport, and 3 in industries. The representative of Baluchistan government informed that they have conducted seminar with Civil Society Coalition for Climate Change .We have also started local adaptation program in 34 districts. Baluchistan is water stricken area so we are focusing on water and energy efficiency. They also suggested to make Provincial Environmental Protection Agency should be made permanent member of Annual Development Budget. The representative of Azad Jammu and Kashmir said that we are first one to have dedicated climate change unit. We have submitted proposals for Green Climate Fund as well.The representatives of Sindh said that we have 9 development schemes of fresr which are aligned with this framework. There are three schemes for mangroves and planning to make a world record as well. Flood commission said climate hydrology is very important. National Flood Protection program 4 includes plans for Coastal, Nallah lai floods and Glacier Lake Outbursts floods as well. Pakistan Metrological Department said that glacier Lake Outbursts one implemented successfully and international auditors appreciated it. Now we are implementing Glacier Lake Outbursts floods two(GLOF 2) as well. We have also installed weather surveillance radar at Islamabad and Karachi. Pakistan and National Determined Contribution Partnership said we are trying to corporate energy efficiency in PC-1 format. The meeting was attended by representatives from Provincial Environmental Protection Agencies, Pakistan Metrological Department, United Nation Development Pakistan, National Disaster Management Authority Flood commission and officials of Ministry of Climate Change. *****
