PR No. 129 DRAP and Punjab Health Care Department agreed on effective coordination mechanism Islamabad: February 16, 2018

DRAP and Punjab provincial healthcare department have decided to constitute a joint task force for implementation of joint strategy to provide safe effective medications and to ensure availability of lifesaving drugs. This objective was achieved while holding a collaborative meeting of DRAP and Punjab Health Department. Dr. Sheikh Akhter Hussain, CEO DRAP visited Lahore to hold a meeting with Health Minister Punjab, Khawja imran nazir and Mr. Ali jan, Secretary primary secondary healthcare department. Dr. Hussain briefed the participants about the steps taken by the DRAP for upgrading and strengthening of DRAP. New regulatory amendments have been made by the Authority which are in line with the WHO guidelines and international best practices. Khawja imran nazir appreciated the DRAP’s efforts and expressed his greetings to Dr. Hussain for joining as CEO, DRAP. It was appraised that DRAP has constituted a committee for interprovincial coordination and to establish a robust mechanism for communication among provincial health departments. The committee is led by experienced officers and will submit weekly report. To address the problem of shortages of critically needed drugs, new mechanism has been established to resolve the issue on scientific basis. The provincial minister expressed his continued support to DRAP. The DRAP delegation visited various sections of primary and secondary healthcare department, Drug Testing Laboratory, commands and control system of primary and secondary healthcare department, HIDSU, public facilitation center, bio medical display, and provincial drug control unit of Punjab. Participants paid keen interest in the IT support system and agreed to get benefit from the experience of each other in the drug regulatory modules. CEO DRAP also visited Punjab information technology board, Arfa Kareem tower, Lahore and met with the IT professionals to get briefing on drug regulatory software. It was decided that DRAP will consider integration of its MIS division with PITB for transfer of IT technology regarding regulatory inspections and geo tagging of pharmaceutical manufacturers.
