Karachi, the City of
Lights, has again become the economic and commercial hub of Pakistan as the
government has successfully addressed the challenge of security and law &
order in the mega city. For this achievement, credit goes to all the political
parties and armed & civil law enforcement agencies. This was stated by Mr
Muhammad Zubair, Governor Sindh at a dinner reception given in his honour by
H.E. Syed Ibne Abbas, the High Commissioner at the Pakistan High Commission,
London on 21 December 2017, says a press release received from London here
today.
Giving an expert
overview of the Pakistan economy, the Governor said the current government from
the very outset identified that in order for the economy to take off,
challenges of security and energy would have to be addressed comprehensively.
Therefore, both the challenges were grappled with, successfully, with the
complete consensus of all the stakeholders. He particularly mentioned the
positive impact of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) on the economy and
especially on overcoming the shortage of energy. Improved law and order in
Pakistan, particularly in Karachi, is significantly encouraging the local and
international investors to benefit from the potential of huge Pakistani market,
added the Governor. He invited the expatriate community to invest in Pakistan
for better returns.
Welcoming the Governor,
the High Commissioner commended him for his contribution towards the economic
turnaround of the country, as he remained an important member of the economic
team of the government. He also underlined the trade and economic opportunities
for Pakistan in the post-Brexit UK—a country Pakistan enjoys excellent and
multi-faceted bilateral relations with. The High Commissioner also appreciated
the positive role of the diaspora in the progress and development of Pakistan.
Speaking briefly on Mission’s activities, the High Commissioner said: “We
celebrated the 70th Independence Anniversary of Pakistan
throughout the year 2017 by showcasing our cultural heritage and economic
potential to the world. The year 2018 would be the year of Youth Engagement, as
our youth is our future.”
Governor Sindh visited
the UK from 16 to 22 December 2017 along with
a business delegation to seek collaboration across various sectors of economy
between Pakistan and UK. He held several useful meetings with British Ministers
and other senior officials in London.
