PR.30 “MEDIA HAS A GREAT ROLE IN TACKLING CLIMATE CHANGE THREATS”, FEDERAL MINISTER FOR CLIMATE CHANGE. Islamabad: 6th November, 2017

The producer of radio program  ‘Raabta” Mr.Inaam Soomroo met Federal Minister for Climate Change Senator Mushahidullah Khan in his office. Federal Minister for Climate Change Senator Mushahidullah Khan awarded a shield to Mr. Inam Soomroo for conducting a regular radio program on climate change for eight months with the collaboration of Ministry of Climate Change.

            “Media is considered as fourth pillar of state and has a great role in tackling climate change issue.Media can create awareness among public on grass root level”, Federal Minister for Climate Change. He also highlighted Pakistan is a country where majority of population is having access to media. Radio has listeners in far off areas. It is an important tool to involve local communities that are affected by climate change. Media brings into notice of government various issues. He also said that media should also play active role in realizing the communities about individual responsibility. He further added this initiative of regular radio program on climate change was great idea and we need to start more programs in future. This program helped in discussing all issues of climate change.

            Ms. Zile Huma Public Relations Officer, Ministry of Climate Change, took this initiative and approached Mr. Inam Soomroo for conducting a regular program. Total twenty-eight programs were conducted and discussed topics like Prime Minister’s Green Pakistan Program, threats of plastic bags, Climate Change Act, Minamata Convention, Media and public awareness, plastic bags etc. The Secretary Ministry of Climate Change Syed Abu Ahmed Akif was also present in the event.
