President Mamnoon Hussain has said that prosperity of nations and economic progress also depend on peaceful political situation as political instability leads to uncertainty and pace of economic progress slows down adding that however now political situation of the country is encouraging and if this continued then in the next few years our social and economic situation would further improve and bring about betterment in the lives of common people.

The President expressed these views while addressing the concluding session of “Conference on Vision 2025-Effective Strategy for Transformational Growth” organized by Pakistan Society for Development Economists (PSDE) and Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE)here in Islamabad on Saturday.

The President stated that over the last few years certain elements have emerged as a challenge to our national economy which include the problems of law and order, political instability and lack of infrastructure development but the Government and the Armed Forces accepted the challenge and demonstrated excellent performance through judicious decision-making and by rendering sacrifices noting that now peace is being established in the country and resultantly confidence of investors is restoring and business and economic activities are increasing.

The President said that PIDE has rendered commendable services for stability of national economy and prosperity of people and hoped that economic professionals participating in the conference would bring forth useful recommendations in the light of targets set in vision 2025. The President stated that as a result of government’s policy issue of availability of competent and skilled manpower in the country is being resolved and attention is also being paid on improving the basic structure of economy.

Calling China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project a monument of this century, the President said that completion of CPEC would bring about economic progress in future and Pakistan would be able to take great benefit from this project due to its unique geographical location.

On the occasion, while addressing the students, the President stated that they should devote their attention on acquiring education and never compromise on their Pakistani identity. The President said that due to the curse of corruption we could not materialize the dream and vision of Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal. The President appreciated the efforts and commitment of Prof. Ahsan Iqbal for realizing the goals of Vision 2025.

Earlier, speaking on the occasion, Federal Minister for Planning, development and Reforms Prof. Ahsan Iqbal said that no nation can progress until it has commitment and has adopted a right path for itself.
