PR No.206 Islamabad: November 19, 2015 Ishaq Dar Chairs Meeting On Economic Reforms

Finance Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar here on Thursday chaired a meeting to review the progress of economic reforms in the country . The meeting was attended by Secretaries of Finance, EAD, Commerce, Chairmen of SECP and FBR as well as the World Bank officials led by Country Director Pachamuthu Illongovan.

The meeting reviewed in detail the progress of various reforms carried out during the last two years. The Minister was also briefed about the preparatory work for the next level of economic reforms, which will focus on equitable economic growth. The reforms are aimed aimed at improving the ease of doing business, streamlining and simplifying tax processes, improvement in governance and transparency in the capital markets, promotion of the insurance sector, strengthening of social safety nets and other such measures.

The Finance Minister said that ever since assuming office the present government had embarked upon a comprehensive reforms agenda which helped achieve turnaround in the national economy. He expressed the resolve that for consolidation of gains made so far, the government would now focus on growth and employment generation. The Minister on this occasion also directed that monthly meetings of officials concerned may be convened to review the progress of reforms.

Mr. Illongovan assured the meeting that the World Bank will continue to support the economic reform process. He appreciated the pace of work on the next level of reforms and acknowledged that various entities of the Government were working in unison for achieving the objective of implementing growth inducing reforms.
