PR No.147 Islamabad: November 12, 2015 Amjad Islam Amjad Calls On The High Commissioner

Renowned Urdu poet, drama writer and lyricist of Pakistan, Amjad Islam Amjad called on H.E. Syed Ibne Abbas, Pakistan High Commissioner to the UK, on 11 November 2015, says a Press Release received from London here today.

The High Commissioner commended Amjad Islam Amjad for his services to promote Urdu language and literature through his fascinating poetry and popular television plays. He also discussed with him ideas to preserve and promote Pakistani literature and culture in the UK. The High Commissioner expressed desire to organize a literary event to celebrate his work during his next visit to the UK, to which Amjad agreed with gratitude.

Amjad Islam Amjad said it was encouraging to see that the British Pakistanis have great love for Urdu as evident from literary events and Urdu Mushairas frequently organized in the UK. He further said that Urdu poetry and literature were great source of transmitting culture and forming identity of young generation. On this occasion, he presented a set of his books to the High Commissioner.

Amjad Islam Amjad has received many awards for his literary work and screenplays for TV, including Pride of Performance and Sitara-e-Imtiaz. Amjad is the writer of many drama series for PTV including Waris, Dehleez, Samandar, Raat, Waqt and Apnay Loug. However, his main focus remains Urdu poems.
