PR No.68 Stern Action Would Be Taken Against Those Who Are Involved In Import Of Products Containing Haram Ingredients. Minister For Science And Technology. Islamabad

On the complaint of All Pakistan Solvent Extractor Association (APSEA) regarding the import of meat meal which contains undesirable (Haram) ingredients /Pig fats. Rana Tanveer Hussain , Federal Minister for Science and Technology chaired a high level meeting .

Apart from others the meeting was attended by Mr .Fazal Abass Maken, Secretary Ministry Science and Technology, Dr Shehzad Aalam, Chairman Pakistan Council for Industrial Research PCSIR ,representatives from Pakistan Standard and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) and Pakistan National Accreditation (PNAC).

Rana Iqbal Husain, chairman of the APSEA briefed about the imported meat meal containing undesirable ingredients/pig fats. It was informed that in 2006 such type of mafia was active and they imported the ingredients in the form of fertilizers which was banned by taken of suo’moto action of Supreme Court of Pakistan in 2007. Again it has been come to know that the same type of Haram ingredients are again being imported under different classification especially in the form of poultry feed and these ingredients are being used by mixing in soyabean oil to increase the value of protein.

The Minister taking a very serious notice of the situation issued direction to PSQCA to take proactive role to control this criminal activities. “ You have to adopt two prong strategy both at the import points and also make surprise raids on those industries which are extracting oil from the products containing haram ingredients , being importing in the form of poultry feeds’’ he added.

The Minister reiterated the government commitment that safe and standardized edible oil ,dairy products and water would be provided to the masses at all cost , ‘’ those industrialist /Mill Owners who are involve in such type of criminal activities should be exposed and their factories /mills should be sealed.” he orderd.

He also assured full cooperation to APSEA in this regard.
