A three member delegation of the European Parliament led by MEP Peter Van Dalen, called on Mr. Ashtar Ausaf Ali, the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Law, Justice and Human Rights to discuss recent developments in Pakistan relating to the rule of law and human rights. SAPM, Mr. Ashtar Ausaf Ali said, “Not only all laws, statutes and rules and regulations, but also major judgments of the apex courts are being translated in Urdu, so that everyone may understand them. Furthermore they are being digitalized and made available online to make them easily accessible. Dissemination of laws to all, in easily accessible and understandable means, is a very crucial element of educating the citizenry which was unfortunately missing in the past.” While informing the delegation of recent legal developments, the SAPM said, “Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif has a clear vision for upholding the rule of law, and is committed to implement his vision of providing speedy justice by using all means possible. Government is reforming the procedural laws by eliminating outdated and unnecessary hindrances.”

The SAPM, Mr. Ashtar Ausaf Ali, while expressing the government’s commitment to adhere to religious norms, values and beliefs, said, “There is dire need to initiate extensive dialogue on interfaith harmony and to hold seminars, meetings and roundtable conferences so that the forces of peace and tolerance may be revived.”

The delegation expressed its appreciation on the reforms that government is bringing to ensure rule of law and offered their cooperation in this regard.
