PR No. 116 Statement by Aizaz Chaudhry in a dialogue with Afghan Ambassador on “Pakistan & Afghanistan Relations, Diplomacy & Security Challenges” organized by Indus, a Washington DC based think tank in Carnegie Endowment on 19 June 2017. Islamabad: 20 June 2017

Ambassador Aizaz Chaudhry said that if Afghanistan is stable, Pakistan is the biggest beneficiary.

Ambassador Aizaz Chaudhry reiterated Pakistan’s commitment that it will not allow its soil to be used by any militant group against any country including Afghanistan.

On the occasion, Afghan Ambassador said that terrorism is not a bilateral issue between Pakistan & Afghanistan. It’s a global issue and all the countries including Pakistan need to address this menace.

Ambassador Aizaz Chaudhry further said that the tendency to shift blame on Pakistan for everything by Afghanistan should be discouraged.

Ambassador Aizaz Chaudhry underscored that Pakistan & Afghanistan need to cooperate in order to defeat the common enemy i.e. terrorism for bringing stability in the region.

Towards the end, Ambassador Aizaz Chaudhry stated that Pakistan is open to any mechanism that may work for bringing peace in Afghanistan & the entire region.

During the course of discussion, Afghan Ambassador admitted that conflict in Afghanistan is far beyond Pak-Afghanistan region. It involves many international players and forces & requires a comprehensive political solution for lasting peace.
