PR No.14 FEDERAL MINISTER FOR CLIMATE CHANGE ZAHID HAMID ANNOUNCES THREE IMPORTANT ACHIEVEMENT APPROVED BY CABINET INDCS REPORT, CLIMATE CHANGE BILL AND RATIFICATION OF PARIS AGREEMENT IN A PRESS CONFERENCE Islamabad

A press conference held at Ministry of Climate Change by Federal Minister for law, Justice and Climate Change Zahid Hamid  He briefed the media about the background of Paris agreement.Prime Minister of Pakistan participated in COP-21 in which this historic agreement was finalized.

Then he informed that we constituted an expert study group to formulate an INDCs report. This report explains that how much emission is expected as a result of future development He also informed that our current carbon emissions are 405 million tons and 135th in the world. In INDC s report it is projected 1603 million tons till 2030..He also highlighted that we have intended to reduce 20% carbon emission depending upon the availability of funds we get from Green Climate Fund. The INDCs would be submitted to UNFCCC secretariat before COP-22.

Third important development he highlighted was approval of climate change bill. Under this bill climate change authority will be formulated. This authority will include all chief ministers. Different projects will be prepared under this authority through consultation that will be implemented by provinces. We are among few countries that have which will have this authority. It will also be responsible to implement Kyoto protocol and Paris agreement.

He also highlighted Green Pakistan Program and told the media that 20% target have already been achieved. He informed that this is letter day to achieve three major climate change developments.

While answering the question about coal power projects, he informed that we need to increase our energy demands and eliminate load shedding. Pakistan has to create economic activity that is vital for Pakistan development.

He also highlighted that climate change is not problem of one province. It is a national problem and should be dealt by mutual consultation; He also informed the media about recent Pakistani achievement to gain 36 million dollars for GGLOF projects besides Indian forceful opposition.

Syed Rizwan Mehboob Prime Minister focal Person on Climate Change briefed the media about 20% target achieved under Green Pakistan. In Sindh Mangroves forest, KPK million tree tsunami, Baluchistan Ziarat Mgsi and in Punjab Cheecha Watni are some examples  which are covered under Green Pakistan Program
