PR No.150 Health Minister calls on Dr.Shaikh Salman in Bahrain to discuss establishment of Nursing University in Islamabad Islamabad

Minister National Health Services, Saira Afzal Tarar Said that, King of Bahrain during his visit to Pakistan in March 2014 graciously offered to establish a state-of-the-art medical institution as a gift from the people of Bahrain with the objective to uplift the standard of medical education in the country and produce world class manpower in the field of medical care and King Hamad University of Nursing and Associated Medical Sciences will cater to 2000 students with 500 annual admissions. Residential facility will be provided to 1000 female students. While She was talking with H.E. Maj. Gen. Dr.. Shaikh Salman bin Ateytallah Al Khalifa Chief Executive, King Hamad University Hospital, Bahrain in Bahrain.

She said we take pride in this friendship and are confident that the institution of learning that is being gifted by Bahrain would produce top quality professionals who would serve ailing humanity.

            Minister said Dr. Shaikha Rana bint Isa bin Daij Al-Khalifa and her delegation visited Ministry of National Health Services to discuss the project. She was also shown the land allocated for the project in Islamabad and an MoU was agreed with the Kingdom of Bahrain after detailed deliberations between the Ministries of Health and Foreign Affairs of both countries.

Minister said, 237 kanals of land has been allocated in Park Road Islamabad area for this purpose by the Government. The land is in close proximity with National Institute of Health, Health Service Academy and COMSATS.

Minister said, Capital Development Authority has given the final approval for land acquisition with costing which will be paid by the Government of Pakistan. A case has been initiated by Ministry of National Health Services to secure finances for acquisition of the land.

Minister said, after signing of MoU, three committees were constituted; Oversight Committee for construction of the Nursing University.

Technical committee for curriculum development and other educational matters. Legal committee to deal with all legal issues related to the project.

Minister said, The Prime Minister is keen to initiate the project at the earliest. We are looking at an early date for ground breaking of this project and would request high level participation from the Bahrain side. In this context, Pakistan Embassy in Bahrain would be working with you to fix a suitable date.

She said we are mindful of the need to maintain highest quality of education at par with international standards in the university as envisioned by His Majesty King of Bahrain and our Prime Minister. To this end, we would like to request that the faculty and staff for the university be arranged by the Bahrain side initially for a few years to allow for linkages with international fraternity.
