President Mamnoon Hussain has said that if Kashmiris’ right to self-determination is accepted with an open heart then as a result the environment in the region will become conducive and the resources that, at the moment, are being utilized to promote differences, will then be used for human welfare.  The President said that resolution of Kashmir dispute is imperative for durable peace in the region.

The President said this while addressing the International Conference on Peace and Security in South and Central Asia organized by Fatima Jinnah Women University here in Rawalpindi on Thursday. Chairman Higher Education Commission Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed and Dr. Samina Amin Qadir, Vice Chancellor Fatima Jinnah Women University also addressed on the occasion.

The President stated that it is imperative to avoid negative behaviour for attaining region’s progress and prosperity so that the process of progress and cooperation could continue in full swing in the interest of the people of South and Central Asia. For this purpose, Pakistan is optimistic to convert geographical proximity between all neighbouring countries into a positive and fast-paced partnership, added the President.

President Mamnoon Hussain said that the neighboring countries instead of clinging to the past should move ahead for the progress in the region to better the future of our coming generations.  The President stated that the best way to resolve mutual differences and conflicts is to take measures in good faith to increase mutual interest because only cooperation and mutual trust can resolve issues. The President said that in this age, no region can attain the goal of progress, peace, stability and prosperity unless the international community cooperates with each other with all sincerity. For this, it is important that betterment of the mankind should be preferred over so-called strategic interests and instead of maintaining relations on the basis of acceptance and rejection driven by petty interests, avenues of cooperation in the whole region should be explored, emphasized the President.

The President said that according to International Financial Institutions Pakistan would emerge as an economic power in the next 10-15 years with the current pace of economic development.  He stated that Pakistan is now on the path to progress and its economy is improving adding that now it is our collective responsibility to contribute our due share in Pakistan’s development to secure our bright future.

The President said that the government is focusing on providing higher education to female students noting that the government has increased the funds of HEC which is evident of government’s sincerity in promoting higher education across the country.  The President added that female students can participate in economic progress of the country by acquiring the higher education.

The President noted that our region has been badly affected due to events during the past few decades but fortunately Pakistan boldly faced this situation.  The President said that China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a multipurpose project which will be a harbinger of progress and prosperity for all countries in the region as a result of which the living standard of people will improve.  The President said that CPEC would generate immense employment opportunities and our country will be put on the path to prosperity. The President expressed his optimism that upon completion of ongoing energy projects, Pakistan will get rid of the menace of load-shedding by 2018.

President Mamnoon Hussain said that our neighbouring countries particularly Central Asian States are taking keen interest in CPEC and are desirous of linking up with it. The President said that Pakistan is committed to a comprehensive strategy to take along all its neighbouring countries in this journey towards progress.  The President stated that Pakistan, due to its unique geography, valuable workforce and many other characteristics, is playing a leading role for peace, stability and progress in the region.

The President appreciated Fatima Jinnah Women University for organizing this International Conference and hoped that such activities will continue in future to bridge distances between different nations of the region and expanding horizons of cooperation.

The President expressed confidence that many new and useful recommendation will come forward as a result of exchange of ideas between experts and scholars for peace, progress and prosperity in South and Central Asia.
