PR No. 138 PM MEETS CHINESE PREMIER IN NEW YORK New York: September 21, 2016

Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang met in New York earlier today where both leaders are attending the 71st UN General Assembly session. The Prime Minister was assisted by Mr. Sartaj Aziz, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, Syed Tariq Fatemi, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs and Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry, among others.

The two Premiers expressed satisfaction on the efforts made by the two countries to deepen ties anchored by a shared vision of peace and progress for their peoples and for the region.

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang said China will stand with Pakistan; we support Pakistan and we will speak for Pakistan at every forum. We are thankful to Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif for investing huge resources for the safety and security of Chinese personnel in Pakistan, said the Chinese Premier.

We attach great importance to Pakistan’s position on Kashmir, the Chinese Premier stated. Pakistan itself is a victim of terrorism; we hope that the situation between India and Pakistan will not escalate, the Chinese Premier expressed. We also hope that there will be better understanding of Pakistani position on Kashmir by the international community, the Chinese Premier added. We are ready to play constructive role in improvement of relations between Pakistan and India, said Mr. Li Keqiang.

Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif expressed his satisfaction on the state of Pak-China relations. The Prime Minister welcomed the statement of china on the atrocities being committed in Indian Occupied Jammu & Kashmir.

Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif said that Pakistan is committed to regional peace and stability. We condemn terrorism in all its forms and manifestation, the Prime Minister reiterated. Operation Zarb-e-Azb is going on successfully; we have dismantled the network of terrorists from Pakistan, the Prime Minister apprised the Chinese Premier. Peace with neighbors is part of our vision, the Prime Minister said.

Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif condoled with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang on the deaths in china due to recent floods. Whatever unfortunate happens in China is a matter of great concern for us; Pakistan and China are iron brothers, the Prime Minister said.

The Pak-China relations have entered into a different phase from political to economic one, which is a matter of great happiness for Pakistan, the Prime Minister stated.

Chinese Premier shared his thoughts on the great gesture by Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif to meet him as Prime Minister-designate when Premier Li Keqiang was in Pakistan. You broke the tradition; Pak China relations are unbreakable, said the Chinese Premier.

Premier Li Keqiang accepted invitation from Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif to visit Pakistan soon.
