PR No. 107 “National Emission Inventory has been updated by Pakistan, INDC committee report” Federal Minister of Law, Justice and Climate Change Zahid Hamid said that all stake holders should be taken on board for INDC report. Islamabad: September 19, 2016

A meeting was held at Ministry of Climate Change chaired by Federal Minister for Law, Justice and Climate Change Zahid Hamid to review progress on INDC report. Mr Sajjad Haider Yaldram DS, Ministry of Climate Change gave presentation and briefed about points of report.

He describe the Terms of Reference as provided by PM in 2015 for study includes to establish the Reference Case Scenario and determine the emissions level, undertake the projections for the future scenario based on the government’s growth programs and measures, Review the current mitigation actions and programs.

He further briefed about the Key Parameters that were Rooted in Vision 2025 goals and objectives and other official Policy Goals, set in the context of Pakistan National Climate Change Policy, National Policy on Disaster Risk Reduction & National Considerations, additional Energy Supply from diverse sources and optimizing energy mix a key consideration, Voluntary and ambitious commitments to reduce GHG emissions to a considerable level and Goals for adaptation.

The Challenges faced during studies included data gaps and inconsistencies being experienced, different sectoral growth targets not fully aligned, not so clear road map with respect to CPEC related interventions and time constraint to carry out the study.

The Minister for Climate Change was briefed about Approach & Methodology based on IPCC Guidelines, 6 sectors of economy – Energy, Transport, Agriculture, Industry, Forestry and Waste, Adaptation and mitigation Options based on planned and intended government interventions during the period 2016-2030.The Green House Reductions proposed on the basis of support from international climate financing were the key consideration of the report presentation.

It was also told the participants that analyzed data received from Provincial Governments and other stakeholders, discussed adaptation and mitigation potential of the country and calculating abatement cost of these initiatives, preparing the first comprehensive National GHG Inventory of Pakistan and analyzing the sectoral growth scenarios shared by various Ministries for preparation of this study.

This report would be sent to all stake holders for authentication and verification by all relevant ministries and departments

Bilal Anwar from INDC team, Nasir Mehmood IG(Forest), Nisar Chattha from Ministry of Climate Change , Arif Goheer from Global Change Impact Study Centre, Dr. Sarwar Waseem ul Hassan from Ministry of National Food Security and Agriculture, Shoaib Sarwar Sandhu from Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Zile Huma Public Relations Officer to Ministry of Climate Change also participated in the meeting.
