On the directions of the Minister of State for Capital Development and Development Division, Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Directorate General of Special Education (DGSE) carried out complete medical examination of all the students and trainees in its seven educational and one vocational training institute for special children.

The medical examination, which was first of its kind in the DGSE, was carried out by four committees of specialist medical doctors constituted by the DGSE. The committees comprised professionals like medical officers, audiologists, speech therapists, physiotherapists and occupational therapists. The committees visited all the special education centers and training institute to conduct complete medical examination of students and trainees and chalked out treatment and therapy plan for the students who require medical or therapy interventions. Children studying in the special education institutes have various kinds of disabilities which include visually impaired, hearing impaired, mentally retarded or autistic children.

The children are put on new schedule of medical treatment and they are being provided with necessary treatment by these professionals at their respective institute. Children carrying additional disability from their primary disability are also screened and provided with necessary medical treatment.

The Minister while talking to the staff of DGSE and doctors said that special children can be made productive part of society by providing them with quality education and modern health facilities. He said that medical examination of all the children at special education institutes will have a healthy effect on the learning abilities of the students.
