President Mamnoon Hussain has said that Brunei Darussalam is a close and trusted friend of Pakistan and emphasized the need to work with dedication to further deepen bilateral relations between the two countries.

The President said this while talking to Pakistan’s High Commissioner-designate to Brunei Darssulum Maj. Gen. (retd) Tariq Rashid Khan who called on him at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, Islamabad on Thursday.

The President urged the ambassador-designate to play role in further strengthening relations with Brunei. The President noted that immense opportunities for investment in Pakistan and Brunei exist from which entrepreneurs of both countries should benefit. The President said that Pakistan can provide manpower to Brunei to meet its requirements.

President Mamnoon Hussain called for focusing on sectors where investment can be made between the two countries particularly in the fields of education, infrastructure and energy. The President underlined that enhancement of trade between the two countries would further cement bilateral cooperation. The President stressed on increasing cooperation in the defence sector between the two countries. The President stated that direct air links between Pakistan and Brunei should be established to promote business activities between the two countries.

President Mamnoon Hussain emphasized the need on establishing high level Parliamentary and people to people contacts between the two countries. The President said that it is the responsibility of our diplomats to play an effective role in promoting soft image of Pakistan.

President Mamnoon Hussain congratulated Maj. Gen. (retd) Tariq Rashid Khan on being appointed Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Brunei and hoped that he would play his part in further strengthening relations between Pakistan and Brunei.
