The High Commissioner for Pakistan in Dhaka, Rafiuzzaman Siddiqui, met Prime Minister of Bangladesh. The High Commissioner’s maiden meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajid at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) lasted about 70 minutes which, according to individuals familiar with the prime minister’s schedule, was ‘long’ for a first call on by a foreign envoy.

The meeting remained very positive, during which a number of issues concerning both countries were discussed.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh said that disputes may exist among the neighbours and these disputes can be resolved through discussions. She laid emphasis on working together to improve the relationship between the two countries. Sheikh Hasina Wajid also stressed the need for working together to increase trade between the two countries.

The Pakistani High Commissioner stressed the need for more interactions between young people to understand each other.

The Prime Minister assured the High Commissioner of her Government’s cooperation and support in the discharge of his duties during his stay in Bangladesh.
