Federal Minister for National Food Security & Research Mr. Sikandar Hayat Khan Bosan had a meeting with the Italian business delegation on 20th April, 2016, here at the Minister’s office. Italy is the third largest export destination of Pakistan products in European Union; which include rice, textiles, clothing, and leather apparel. The volume of export is $941.13 million in the year 2014-15. Minister expressed his desire & resolved to bring the agriculture sector on modern footings by facilitating the farmers which is possible through modern mechanization and hence enhancing the volume of existing bilateral trade focusing on agricultural commodities.
Minister expressed that we are resolved to bring better production and for that custom duties on import are considerably decreased from 43% to current 9%. We are committed to bring it down further. The Italian business delegations showed keen interest in coming toPakistan in future, and help in advanced farm mechanization as they are quite advanced in the field of this technology & have wide range of machinery. Federal Minister invited them for establishing post harvest processing units for pest mitigation and phyto-sanitation, hot water treatment plants, vapor heat treatment plants & individually quick frozen facilities. In the meeting Italian investment was sought for farm mechanization; value addition in fruits and vegetables and High Efficiency Irrigation System (HEIS) equipments and Alternate Energy equipments for pumping irrigation water. The Minister assured full support for business to business contacts and ease of doing agricultural business on bilateral basis.
