PR No.154 Government Of Panama Regrets Incorrect Statement By Ivan Zarak Islamabad: April 19, 2016

The Government of Panama has expressed its regrets over the incorrect statement made by their Dy. Minister, Ivan Zarak in an interview aired by CNN last week.

An official message of the Panama government delivered to Finance Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar through Pakistan’s Foreign Office, stated: “The Government of the Republic of Panama would like to clarify a statement given by Panamian Deputy Minister of Economy, Ivan Zarak during an interview with CNN International this week. In his declarations Deputy Minister by mistake mentioned he had a conversation with the Minister for Finance of Pakistan during the Global Connect Initiatives meeting at Washington, D.C. when instead it was with the Federal Finance Secretary, Dr. Waqar Masood Khan who represented Pakistani Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar at this conference.”

“Panama apologizes for the misunderstanding”, the message concluded.

It may be mentioned that Mr. Ivan Zarak had also earlier accepted his mistake through a tweet, clarifying that he did not meet the Finance Minister, Ishaq Dar at Washington.
