President Mamnoon Hussain has called for an effective mechanism for internal accountability within NAB to improve its credibility and performance and underscored the need for taking effective and concrete measures to weed out the curse of corruption from the society adding that eradication of corruption is imperative for attaining national progress.

The President was talking to Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Qamar Zaman Chaudhary who called on him at the Aiwan-e-Sadr on Tuesday and presented NAB Annual Report 2015.

The President said that corruption poses grave threat to the very fabric of society and in this regard the role of NAB for eradicating corruption is very important. The President noted with appreciation that Pakistan’s ranking in the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) has improved as a result of better performance by NAB.

During the meeting, Chairman NAB Qamar Zaman Chaudhary presented Annual Report 2015 to President Mamnoon Hussain. The President said that societies without effective system of accountability and transparency cannot progress, adding that elimination of corruption is crucial for progress and stability of the country.

The President also called for creating awareness against the ill-effects of corruption and called upon NAB to adopt zero tolerance policy against corruption to obliterate the curse.
