PR No.104 Audit To Focus On Mega Projects Islamabad: April 12, 2016

The Auditor General of Pakistan has advised the Director Generals of Audit to focus on audit of mega projects, performance audit and special audit to ensure accountability of public expenditure and revenue. He was chairing the concluding session of DGs conference.

The participants of the conference made presentations on their performance and implementation of the audit plan for 2015-16. The DGs informed that they were regularly holding Departmental Accounts Committee meetings to ensure implementation of the findings to audit. This had resulted in recovery of public money amounting to billions of rupees. Participants of the conference agreed to incorporate innovative ideas in the next year’s audit plan for improved audit in the greater interest of transparency and accountability. It was decided that the DGs Audit would also discuss ideas of the next year’s audit plan with civil society organizations who are important stakeholders of audit.

The Auditor General of Pakistan advised the Director Generals to ensure that there is no compromise on quality of audit and results of audit are shared with the Secretaries concerned before finalizing the audit report.

He stressed compliance of the decisions taken in the meeting in letter and spirit and directed to keep watch on the follow up of the decisions taken during the meeting.
