PR No. 28 YOUTH DISPLAY SKILLS AT NATIONAL SKILLS COMPETITION Islamabad

A large number of trainees of various vocational training courses demonstrated their skills at the national skills competition organized by the National Vocational & Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) here on Wednesday.

The National Skills Competition, first of its kind, is part of a campaign, which the NAVTTC has initiated recently to improve the image of skilled workers and attract more youth towards technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in Pakistan.

For this purpose, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was divided into four zones where hundreds of both male and female trainees participated with enthusiasm and exhibited their Skills in 10 diversified trades including plumbing, welding, beautician, dress making, hospitality, general electrician, web development, auto-cad and graphic designing. Winners of these four zones then competed at the provincial level here on Wednesday.

Winners and runner ups were given cash prizes at a ceremony organized by the NAVTTC in collaboration with the TVET Reform Support Programme, which is funded by the European Union and the governments of the Netherlands, Germany and Norway. On this occasion, tool kits, certificates and cash prizes of Rs. 50,000/-, Rs. 35,000/- and Rs. 20,000/- were distributed amongst the 1st, 2nd and 3rd position holders of each trade respectively. It is worth mentioning that women from the far flung areas of KPK also took part in these competitions with enthusiasm and exhibited their skills in various trades. In Dress Making competition, Ms. Nahida Ahmed and Ms. Sumaira Ahmed stood first and second respectively. Ms. Ayesha Rehman and Ms. Hina Israr gained first and second position, respectively, in Beautician competition while Ms. Rubina and Ms. Shabana Begum stood first and second, respectively, in Hand and Machine Embroidery competition.

A large number of people from different walks of life including industrialists, TVET providers and parents of the participating TVET trainees were present. While, the ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany Ms. Ina Lepel, ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Mrs. Jeannette Seppen and ambassador of the European Union to Pakistan Mr. Jean-François Cautain and Governor KPK, Ibal Zafar Jhagra, were the guests of honour.
