I would like to take the occasion of ‘International Day of Forests’, being commemorated today the world over, to highlight the importance of preserving our forests and growing more trees in Pakistan. Our Government realizes the importance of trees as best instruments of Climate Change Mitigation.

I am glad to state that Pakistan has already ratified the ‘Paris Agreement’ whereby Pakistan is committed to deal with impacts of  climate change through technology framework and  enhanced capacity building.  Climate change is not only affecting our present but it will adversely affect our generations to come. Therefore, if we do not act today, we risk the future of our coming generations.

Working towards a Green Future for our coming generations, My Government has already put in operation ‘Green Pakistan Program’ throughout the country to fight adverse impacts of Climate Change. Through a mix of Green Sector policy reforms and increased tree cover, I want to see Pakistan as one of the leading environmentally responsible nations in the world.

I am pleased to state on this occasion that the Federal Government has released Rs. 553 million, as first tranche of ‘Green Pakistan’ Fund, to be disbursed to all Provinces, AJ&K, Gilgit Baltistan and FATA, without any preferences, for a forestation.

I would like to reiterate my personal commitment and urge the nation to work for a Green Pakistan which values it’s trees, wild life and bio-diversity as most precious endowments of the mother nature.
